Lighthouse

On Saturday mornings, once or twice a month we open Hope UK and invite passers by in for a chat and a drink and biscuits (or take them a drink outside). It is very informal, and we like to get to know people and let them tell us what they are concerned about or happy about. Join us from 10.00-12.30: see our What's On page for details

HOW CAN WE LOVE OUR NEIGHBOUR?

Practise Hospitality

The history of the church is around the table: this is where the people of Jesus meet. From one home to another. Share a meal together.

The Table is a very ordinary place. We all eat multiple times a day. It can be a place of life-changing community.

We encourage you to continue this ancient Christian practice of sitting around the table together with others. It doesn’t need to be perfect or complicated, but find ways to practise this in your own home, with friends and with neighbours.

The Art of Neighbouring

What if the starting point in what Jesus meant by loving our neighbour is to love our actual neighbour? As in the people on our street? Even the ones we don’t get on with! If we consider that our neighbour is everybody, then it can end up being nobody.

Why not spend some time getting to know your immediate neighbours. Find out their names and start to pray for them. What if Jesus intends for them to be the primary recipients of our love? How would you do that? Click on the link below for some ideas, and let us know yours.

Acts of Kindness

Look for ways to bless those around you, especially those in need or distress. Spend some time chatting to people and listening to their stories. Buy them a coffee, make them a cake, ask of there is any way you can help them out. Pay for a drink for the person behind you in the cafe queue. Be inventive.

Compassion is defined as being conscious of others’ distress along with a desire to alleviate it. Have a look at our Compassion page to see suggestions for how you might donate or volunteer with one of the many services for those in food poverty or homelessness locally.
